Food is the doorway to healing your soul

Leafy salad with flowers

It really matters what you eat, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

When it comes to surviving and thriving on this planet, food is everything. Paying more attention to what you eat, which means bringing more fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices, and wild foods into your life, as well as understanding how these healing foods feed your body and soul, can have benefits beyond imagination.

Why? Because these four food groups contain an intelligence that we need in order to adapt to a rapidly changing world.

Sadly, there is such mass misunderstanding about how to eat well, and how to feed our souls at the same time as our bodies. We are surrounded by misinformation, and health fads and trends that do not work, not to mention the streams of herbicides and pesticides that we are ALL exposed to, and that have contributed to the explosion of chronic and mystery illness.

To create positive change, both internally and externally, we must look to food as our ally.

Since setting up my practice, I have been closely observing the people who come to me for help with their health. For many, the focus has been a chronic symptom or condition, for which they were previously unable to find an answer. For others, the focus has been a desire to create a more harmonious relationship with food and find a way to cut through the confusion around what to eat or not to eat to improve their health. And often, it is a combination of both needing to heal a particular issue, as well as create a more harmonious relationship with food.

Either way, a deeper connection to and understanding of food, as well as the ability to navigate the right information, are absolutely necessary, as it is truly a minefield of confusing information out there.

There are different doorways through which we can access deeper soul healing. For me, it has always been food. From disordered eating in my teens to a series of chronic health problems in my twenties, to finally finding freedom in my body, food has been and continues to be my greatest teacher, through the breakdowns and breakthroughs, and the ups and downs of life!

One of the reasons why food can be such a powerful teacher is because it reflects so clearly your relationship with life; the capacity to give and receive freely; the ability to listen to and nurture your deepest needs; the power to deny or fulfil our longings or desires.

Food speaks to us, our job is to understand it's language because when we do, deep healing can unfold.

Let's take bananas, as an example, as they have been and continue to be my most powerful food ally!

Bananas are powerfully anti-viral, so much so that they have the capacity to repel growth of the retrovirus HIV. They are also the ultimate gut healers, helping to eliminate fungus and unproductive bacteria, as well as alleviate cramps and gastro-intestinal disorders, such as IBS, colitis and Crohn’s disease. They balance blood sugar and help to soothe and calm the body, due to their high content of the amino acid tryptophan.

Emotionally, bananas help to strengthen the core of who we are, encouraging us to peel back our layers and expose our true selves, while spiritually, the banana plant teaches us the importance of casting our roots deep into the earth, as we blossom and grow, just like it does in nature. This beautiful plant grows its roots thick and wide underground, which allows for layers of leaves to grow fast and strong, overground.

So you see, by understanding food in this way, you can begin to connect with yourselves, your body, your health and with nature, more profoundly. Food becomes a doorway to healing your soul.

Just remember, you have a choice to feel well and there's a way to do it!

You have a choice to feel empowered and joyful, everyday.

Wishing you much love, health and happiness

Rebecca
