Top healing foods and supplements for colds and flus

Rosehip juice and leafy greens

If you want to build a truly strong immune system and prevent the onslaught of colds and flus every year, the place to begin is with your food.

Food has the capacity to hinder or heal, it’s as simple as that. It can truly take you to new heights of health or it can truly take you down.

Regular colds or flus are a sign that your immune system is operating under par and needs support. Or, if you’re some that only gets a bug occasionally but it’s severe when you do, that can also suggest a system that is overburdened and needs support.

First and foremost, whether protecting yourself from getting a cold or flu, or trying to knock out a current infection, here are a few key tips!

AVOID THE FOODS THAT FEED INFECTION

Dairy - creates a lot of mucus and causes silent chaos behind the scenes, even if you get no symptoms when you eat it. It feeds every single pathogen from viruses to bacteria to worms and parasites.

Eggs - feed the flu virus and pathogens in general. Eggs will keep any virus replicating in your body and really hinder the healing process.

Chicken – flu viruses feed off birds, especially chicken, making it a not so helpful food for overcoming infection. If you do insist on drinking chicken broth or eating chicken, just make sure to add lots of healing veggies. It is the veggies that will help you heal, not the chicken!

Gluten - Taxes the immune system and feeds viruses and bacteria.

MAXIMISE THE FOODS THAT KILL THE BUGS

Celery juice - A powerful weapon against all viruses and unproductive bacteria. It also contains a unique form of vitamin C that instantly strengthens the immune system. 400ml on an empty stomach, daily.

Cucumber juice - Deeply hydrating and also amazing for fevers. It helps to put out the fire of a fever. This is a great one for children with a high temperature. 400ml on an empty stomach, or sip through the day with a fever.

Lemon water - Deeply hydrating, bolsters the immune system and detoxifies the liver and body. Best to drink on waking and then throughout the day, if you’re feeling unwell. Add raw honey and ginger to make a more potent healing tonic. When you are sick, the body needs more of the right kind of glucose and raw honey is top of that list!

Ginger water - Incredible for preventing colds and flus when taken on a regular basis. Also great for alleviating nausea, fatigue and sore throats. Add the juice of grated ginger into your morning lemon water daily to make a regular feature in your life.

Thyme tea and water - Powerfully anti-viral. Thyme helps to soothe coughs, fight colds and infections and relieve fevers.

Turmeric ginger shots - These are the best! I drink this combination several times a day when I feel I’m coming down with something and also for the duration of an infection. This tonic will shorten the duration of the bug.

Recipe (Medical Medium®)

4 inches turmeric

4 inches ginger

2 oranges

4 cloves

Method: One at a time, run each ingredient through the juicer, keeping the juices separate. Combine 1 teaspoon turmeric juice, 1 teaspoon ginger juice, 1/4 teaspoon garlic juice, and 1/4 cup of orange juice in a small glass. Stir to combine and drink immediately.

Note: the amount of ingredients necessary will vary greatly based on the juicer that is used.

Makes 2 to 4 servings.

Healing broth - This vegetable healing broth is deeply cleansing and nourishing at the same time. It is a far superior choice to chicken broth for the reasons mentioned above. https://www.medicalmedium.com/mm101/medical-medium-healing-broth.htm

Raw garlic - Highly anti-viral and anti-bacterial. If you feel yourself coming down with something or you’re in the midst of an infection, aim for 3 cloves of raw garlic per day. You can crush the cloves and add to food, such as avocado, banana or potato.

Raw honey - Packed full of nutrients, minerals and live enzymes, raw honey helps you create a strong first line of defense, as it strengthens white blood cells, in particular macrophages and neutrophils, which fight off pathogens. It’s a powerful source of protection and is also deeply calming and nurturing.

TEAS

Peppermint and rose hips tea are particularly helpful if you’re struck down with a cold or flu.

Peppermint - Relieves headaches and congestion and soothes any aches, cramps or spasms that can happen with a flu. It also bolsters the immune system.

Rosehips tea - Packed full of Vitamin C and also helps to supercharge a vitamin C supplement.

HELPFUL SUPPLEMENTS TO COMBAT A COLD, FLU OR BUG

Zinc - Absolutely critical for fending off the bugs and essential to every single aspect of the immune system. If you are coming down with a bug or already sick, you can do zinc shock therapy to really knock things out.

Cats claw - Destroys cold and flu bugs and other pathogens, and it brings stability to the body. It’s one of the key anti-viral herbs that doesn’t overstimulate the immune system, whilst also being incredibly powerful.

Vitamin C - Strengthens the entire immune system. Humans don’t make their own vitamin C like animals, so we need to be getting enough of it from food and a clean supplement.

Lemon balm - Highly antiviral but in a very soothing way. It calms the entire system and is especially effective for soothing the nerves of the digestive system.

Elderberry syrup - Elderberries enhance immune function and also alleviate congestion in the lungs. Elderberry syrup at the onset of illness can significantly shorten the duration of being sick. Here is a beautiful recipe to make your own using raw honey instead of sugar. https://www.medicalmedium.com/mm101/medical-medium-elderberry-syrup.htm

B12 - Protects the nervous system and adrenals, which get weakened by cold, flus and other bugs. Most of us are deficient in the right kind of B12, so this is an important supplement to take on a regular basis.

Curcumin - Relieves pain and inflammation that can be induced with a flu or cold and is also great for congestion, sore throats and sinus infections, especially when taken in the longer term.

Wow, what a treasure trove of natural remedies we have at our finger tips! How could this not be inspiring and so much less damaging than anti-inflammatories, which suppress an infection, driving it deeper into the body.

Play around and see what works best for you. As a rule of thumb, lightening your food intake and fats will hugely help when you are ill, as it gives the body a chance to clear out. When i’m sick, I generally focus my days around all of the above!
