Streptoccocus, the silent invader
FOR A LIST OF KEY STREP BUSTING FOODS AND SUPPLEMENTS, PLEASE SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM.
Silent, stubborn and stealth-like, Streptococcus is a SUPER-BUG of our time. Most people have no idea how much havoc this bacteria can wreak.
Passed down from our parents and/or picked up along the way from people and places, there are hundreds of different strains of strep that are growing increasingly antibiotic resistant, especially since antibiotics get doled out like party bags!
Strep is the direct cause of AND/OR contributor to a whole range of symptoms and conditions including:
Cystisis, UTI’s, bladder incontinence, burning bladder. bladder spasms, bacterial vaginosis (BV), middle ear infections, sore throat, Strep throat, acne, cystic acne, sties, pneumonia, bronchitis, appendicitis, tonsillitis, IBS, constipation, SIBO, candida migrains, coeliac disease, yeast infections, sinus issues, headaches, fatigue, confusion, low grade fevers, scar tissue in the bladder, cellulitis, ADHD, Autism.
Strep is a best friend or cofactor of Epstein Barr Virus (EBV’s). Where there is EBV, there is Strep. During EBV’S Stage Two, strep can travel up to create strep throat and/or infect the sinuses, nose, mouth, or ears. It can also travel down to create infections in the urinary tract, vagina, kidneys or bladder, as well as nestle into the linings of the intestinal tract.
Long term, strep tends to hide out in the liver, building its colonies, and the more sluggish and weakened the liver becomes, the more strep will thrive. This is why it so important to keep clearing out the liver and to work at building up strong levels of bile and hydrochloric acid (HCL).
The stronger and clearer your liver, the better chance you will have at eliminating strep from around your body.
When bile and HCL weaken from too much stress and too many fats (most people), food doesn’t get broken down properly in the small intestine, and so, it sits around and rots providing the perfect food for strep and other bugs. This eventually leads to symptoms such as candida overgrowth (a harmless fungus that is trying to get strep under control), SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) and acne (strep in the liver and lymphatic system).
Candida’s home is mostly in the gut but it can also appear in the liver, spleen, vagina, lymphatic system and elsewhere. It is simply a sign that something else is spurring on the fungus’s growth, and that something is strep!
Strep is also the leading bacteria in children with ADHD or autism, both of which are caused by toxic heavy metals, with the added complication of high levels of this unproductive bacteria.
The activity level of strep in the body ebbs and flows depending on the state of a person’s immune system and current life circumstances. A stressful few months, for example, can create an explosion of strep, while a woman’s menstrual cycle will exacerbate strep symptoms as a result of the body being under menstruation stress.
HOW YOU CAN HEAL FROM STREP
Strep is stubborn as a mule and takes time to reverse but rest assured, it is reversible!
Step 1: Focus on eliminating the troublemaker foods that feed strep and other bugs, and overburden the liver (eggs, dairy, gluten, soy and corn being the top 5).
Step 2: Work on lowering your fat intake to between 10-15% of your daily calories, and avoid fat before noon.
Step 3: Bring in 400-800ml (16-32oz) lemon water with raw honey on waking.
Step 4: Bring in 400-800ml (16-32oz) of celery juice 15-20 minutes after lemon water on waking. Wait 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything else.
Step 5: Bring in the Medical Medium Heavy Detox Smoothie for breakfast.
Step 6: Focus on an abundance of fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices, and wild foods for lunch and supper, and wherever possible!
There are also specific foods and supplements that help to target strep such as the aromatic herbs, garlic, turmeric, melons, olive leaf, goldenseal and more (see below).
Just remember that consistency and dedication to a diet packed with fruits, vegetables, herbs & spices and wild foods is what will move the needle with your health. But if you are not moving the needle, it's important to take a closer look at your stress levels (adrenaline feeds strep and all bacteria/ viruses) and where you might be making allowances with troublemaker foods. There may also be deeper emotional work that is asking for your attention.
