Autumn cleanse and reset
For me, September feels like the most significant reset time of the year. It is not January when we’re already in the depths of winter, it is September, the beginning of a new chapter, with the summer months coming to a close and autumn showing its first signs of colour.
This is a beautiful and important time of the year for cleansing, as the body is ready to let go of summers’ fiery energy and accumulations, and to move into a more grounded inward space. But that space needs clearing, in order for us to build a strong and healthy immune system for the months ahead.
But doesn’t the body naturally do its own clearing and detoxification and if so, why do we need to cleanse? This is a question I get asked time and again, and the answer is yes, the liver is always working hard to keep us safe from all the junk the body gathers, but our livers need our help because the toxic load we face in this modern world is just too much for it all to come out on its own. So, instead of letting it out naturally everyday, we accumulate more. And that is how we end up sick.
This is why it is so important to learn how to cleanse on a daily basis. Cleansing is simply a means to help the body do its job effectively and if you can learn the techniques that enable the process to take place daily, you will build a strong immune system and feel a new kind of vitality flow through you. It is a process of really coming to know your body, to know how to be your own doctor and to know how to be in control of your health. And this is what I am teaching you to do.
Then, at certain points throughout the year, like autumn, we can take that cleansing process a little deeper, to really dig out the deeper layers. And if you are suffering from chronic illness or symptoms, this deeper digging is essential. It is THE THING that will turn your health around.
So HOW do we help the body cleanse? Here are 5 tips to get you started:
1. CONSISTENCY
It is the consistency with which you do something that will create change.
2. THE MORNING ROUTINE
This is the most powerful first step you can take to change your health.
· 500ml to 1 litre of warm water with lemon, ginger & raw honey (then wait 15 minutes)
· Celery juice, 400ml, on an empty stomach (then wait 30 minutes)
· Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie
Just to encourage you, my 84-year old, highly energetic Dad, is now doing lemon water in the mornings, followed by celery juice. He swims in the Irish sea most days, cooks all his own meals and inspires us all!
3. REDUCE YOUR FATS
Whatever your current fat intake, reduce it by 25%. I’m not talking about eating poor quality, low fat products, I mean reducing your overall fat intake from all sources. If you eat fat three meals of the day, try cutting it our entirely for one meal of the day. Notice that the morning routine includes no fat.
4. EAT MORE FRUIT
Fruit is one of the most highly detoxifying foods groups on the planet. It has huge potential for clearing out the body, ridding of it infections and harmful toxins, as well as building a strong immune system. But it needs to be eaten alone or with greens, not hindered by the presence of protein or fat, including yoghurt, coconut, raw cocoa, nut butters, nuts & seeds.
4. DRY SKIN BRUSHING
This is a highly effective way of moving the lymphatic system. And what is the lymphatic system? It is part of the body’s immune system that protects us from infection. When the body is overloaded and burdened, the lymph becomes stagnant and doesn’t move the waste. Keeping the lymph moving is crucial to staying healthy.
Use a dry skin brush everyday before or after your shower, just make sure you’re dry! Start at your feet and brush upward toward the heart. Similarly, when you start on your arms, begin at the hands and work upward and then down the chest and under the arms to the heart. Use firm, small strokes upward, or work in a circular motion. For the stomach, work in a clockwise direction.
I do hope that’s some useful tips to start practicing. But if you feel ready to dig a little deeper and truly turn your health around, please feel free to book a complimentary call to discuss your health needs.
Wishing you much love, happiness & health
